There’s no longer any reason to live with an open sore. Piedmont Henry Hospital offers the service of its National Healing Wound Center. Our center is staffed with a unique team of physicians and nurses dedicated to healing chronic wounds through the use of numerous treatment options including hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Hyperbaric oxygen chambers work by surrounding the patient with 100% oxygen at higher than normal atmospheric pressure in sessions, or dives, that last 90 minutes to two hours. This increases the amount of oxygen in the patient’s blood allowing red blood cells to pass more easily through the plasma into the wounds to heal them from the inside out.
Other wound healing treatment options available at PHH:
- Debridement (removal of dead or damaged tissue)
- Specially chosen dressings and wraps
- Bio-engineered tissue substitutes
- Platelet growth technologies
How to start healing:
- Your physician may refer you to our center or you can make an appointment directly with us.
- When you call for your first appointment, we’ll ask you a few questions about your wound and health in general.
- Before treatment begins, you will be evaluated by our team of physicians, nurses, and therapists.
- Tests might be conducted to tell us more about your blood flow and tissue oxygenation as well as to determine whether there is any infection.
- Based on your assessment, a treatment program may be developed.
- Once your wound is healed you will return to your physician for follow-up care and continued treatment of any related ailments like diabetes and hypertension.
What to bring to your first appointment:
- A list of all medications you are currently taking as well as any allergies you’re aware of
- Medical records including x-rays, if you have them
- Insurance forms or cards
Much of the success of your treatment depends on you. We’ll count on you to follow your treatment regiment carefully and watch your progress closely. You’ll learn about caring for your wound at home including how to change dressing and how to protect yourself form further injuries. We’re always here to answer questions and give you the support you need to heal.
